As of late 2025, several top officials in the second Trump administration have taken the unusual step of moving into military housing in the Washington, D.C. area, citing security threats, doxxing, and intense political polarization.

Where Cabinet Members Live (2025)

While most Cabinet-level officials typically reside in private homes in Washington, D.C., or nearby Maryland/Virginia, safety concerns have driven a shift toward military bases.

Kristi Noem (Homeland Security Secretary): Moved into housing assigned to the Coast Guard commandant on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
Marco Rubio (Secretary of State): Resides on "Generals' Row" at Fort McNair.
Pete Hegseth (Defense Secretary): Resides on "Generals' Row" at Fort McNair.
