Dear Editor:
Engineers design for efficiency. Bureaucrats and politicians ensure the sustainability and power of the bureaucracy. Developers are enriched by development. None of these endeavors ensure the beauty, goodness and delight of community
Among other attributes, the liveability of a community rests upon its beauty. Neither engineers, politicians, nor developers have ever created the beauty, wonder and natural goodness of a free-flowing brook such as the Little Logan River. They now propose to cover over and dry up this very same artery of life that connects and enriches our community and landscape.. Citizens, please think twice before we allow these "public servants" to disappear yet another thread of the natural, living fabric that once made our town, Logan, Utah, a quaint, unique and beautiful home.

The life or death of the historic Little Logan River should not have been put in the hands of an engineering firm.
The affected Island residents have been denied adequate public voice. No one knew that Logan’s history, river and resources, for decades, was being consigned to asphalt.
We thought the governing body of Logan was the City Council; not an engineering firm from Kaysville. We thought as taxpayers and property owners such a monumental decision would be a matter of public discussion and accessible public record.
This situation needs to be rolled back to square one. Radio and media need to broadcast loudly the opportunity to address this unwise decision.
Compared to Salt Lake City, we are not on the same page when it comes to people denied public comments at the Logan City Council meeting. Representatives of the engineering firm outlined and apparently already approved plan. Salt Lake City allows public input on affected neighborhood issues. This would appear as a done deal to us.
Boise, Idaho treasures greenbelt and river side property.
Little Logan River is the “River Runs Through It.” Its beauty and charm contribute to the uniqueness of Logan. Trees give shelter to birds and ducks are inhabitants of the river. Environmentally it is a crime to destroy and obliterate this branch of the Logan River. The trees will likely die as well.
When all property owners have not agreed on giving up the river border on their title, how can alternatives be addressed?
Charlie McCullom (former Herald Journal editor) once wrote an article on our “River Runs Through It.” He alluded to the Little Logan River running through Merlin Olsen Park. He observed the joyous children splashing in the river at the park. Families had picnics nearby. He enjoyed that timeless treasure of community life.
