Remove your Signature - Stop the effort to eliminate the Fair Boundaries process

Remove your Signature campaign. The signature gathering period for the attempt to repeal the Fair Districting Commission is mercifully over, and we are now in the Remove your Signature phase. Utah law states that any signer of a petition can remove their signature, and the timeline is either 30 or 45 days from two different time points (It's complicated). The petition effort has reached one of two thresholds - the total number of signatures exceeds 140,000 - this was always anticipated to happen. The second threshold which must be met is for a specific number of signatures to be acquired in 26 of 29 State Senate districts (again, complicated), and it is on this threshold that the effort may fail.  As of this morning, they have not reached this threshold, and the petition verification phase is nearly over; March 9 is the deadline. The groups BURRN and Better Boundaries are leading efforts to REMOVE YOUR SIGNATURE, and to date over 4,300 signatures have been removed. Reasons for removal are that people felt they were misled, or pressured by the paid signature gatherers, OR there are documented cases of names added to the petition by people who did not sign. This is fraud. Please go to the website burrn.org to check if your name is on the petition, and follow the links there to remove it. Please do this repeatedly as the county clerks are finishing adding all the signatures they find to be legitimate. To get your name off, you need to print out a form, sign it, and mail it to the county clerk office in the county you are registered to vote in. IF you did not sign a petition and your name is on there, please also fill out this form to report the fraud and submit it to Better Boundaries. Please email if you have any questions.  There is still time to donate time or money to the two groups working to keep democracy alive in Utah.

The reports from BURRN is that IT WILL BE VERY CLOSE - there are data that suggest that keeping the attempt to repeal off the ballot may come down to as few as 10’s of signatures in one state senate district in Davis and/or Salt Lake counties. BURRN volunteers are on the ground to inform people and to provide materials to help them remove signatures, and Better Boundaries is doing phone banking and sending letters to targeted people. We have some GREAT volunteers in Logan doing events here, AND driving to Salt Lake or Davis Counties to help !  MANY people are doing heroic efforts in the Wasatch Front counties; every name removed is great;  Every name removed from the south Davis County districts - SD 6, 7, 8, in Davis Co.,  SD 13 and 15 in Salt Lake County is critical. There are many signature removal letters waiting to be counted in both counties, and each county has a different process and time line (more complexity) - but the final deadline for signature removal is about April 1. The main political reporters in Utah are doing a pretty good job of covering the story, but some of the headlines are misleading,  there are several key sets of data they do not have, and, the group promoting repeal has issues being aligned with truth, so please consume ALL news on this topic with a strong misinformation filter.
